That to me doesn’t sound like an addiction. But more along the lines of a craving. You miss the high.

It’s only mentally addictive, like a habit – You WANT to do it. But it isn’t physically addictive, where you NEED to do it – Like heroin etc.

Firstly; congratulations on taking the smart choice and being 10 months sober dude.

Marijuana is addictive; your body is craving something it’s relied on for so long.

Many things are addictive, people who drink fizzy drinks all day often get headaches when the sugar rush passes, because their body is craving it.

I myself have an addiction to Sushi; whilst not dangerous like Weed or very high levels of sugar; I could turn into a Mermaid if I’m not careful, lol.

Technically it can’t be considered addictive because you do not develop an actual chemical dependency. The urges you’re referring to are ones of habit not addiction.

You can become mentally and emotionally addicted, but there is no way to get physically addicted to marijuana.
I get that same feeling, except I always give in unfortunately.

Yeah its a case of addiction. Try to stop now, or it will be a problem later. Guaranteed!

It is addictive, but only psychologically. Basically you don’t get physical withdrawal symptoms if you quit. Of course what people don’t realize is psychological addiction is far more difficult / long lasting than physical addiction.

yea i’m trying to quit too but find myself in the same situation as you, I personally never believed it wasnt addictive at all because its a substance and any substance or chemical that alters the mind can become an addiction, caffeine, sleeping aids, etc. I guess its "less" addictive than say meth or coke and less dangerous

I would say it is an addiction. If its something that you need all the time. If it’s something you crave. If its something that invades your thoughts. Then i would say it is an addiction. I have a friend that is addicted to marijuana as well. Don’t gamblers get the strong urge to gamble…don’t drinkers get the strong urge to drink when they have stopped drinking for years? I think you just need to be strong enough to say no…for a long long time..or the rest of your life. Its a long road stopping something that your addicted to.

Just curious what made you stop? How long did you smoke for? I have never heard of anyone having an addictive problem with marijuana. There are no physical withdrawals in my experience.

Usually when we use the word ‘addiction’ we mean physical addiction, chemical dependency. Someone addicted to heroin or opium, for instance, if they don’t get it they can get really sick and even die. Tobacco addiction makes you sick, though you don’t die, and it’s not easy to quit.

Pot is ‘psychologically addictive’, meaning that if you stop using it you will miss it, you will have cravings, but you won’t get physically sick, you won’t need pot to stay healthy.

Lots of things are psychologically addictive. If you brush your teeth every night before going to bed, and then one night you can’t for some reason, you will have a hard time falling asleep because your teeth will feel all gross and mossy. That’s psychological addiction. It doesn’t mean that brushing your teeth is bad. MOST habits are like that.

    Sam Renstaff Says:

No matter what any tells you marijuana is addictive. People get confused between physical and psychological addictions. Weed is a psychological addiction. That’s why people feel the need to also get that “high”. A physical addiction like alcoholism is because your body believes it can’t cope without it.

I actually gave up for a year and then started smoking again. I smoked weed for a further 18 months every day and finally gave up for good the 2nd time (i hope). I still think of times when i used to smoke and sometimes i even feel like i miss it. This is the same mentality as an addict. I started smoking again thinking i’d just have the odd joint now and then. Pretty soon i was back to puffing 3 or 4 joints a day, everyday! You can’t just have one (addict mentality!)

Sometimes these feelings are brought on because you associate something you are doing with smoking weed. Mine is Xbox 360. Any tme i play on the Xbox nowadays, it reminds me of those long and wonderful nights i spent with friends i haven’t seen in years. Sitting around grunting at each other and smoking a doobie!

You just have to surround yourself
